UN terms 2016 as Year of Pulses

United Nations has termed 2016 as 'Year of Pulses' to mark importance of pulses and respond to food security challenges at international level.Assistant Director Information Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kohloon in a statement on Tuesday informed that Punjab had 80 percent share in totalproduction of pulses in the country.In Punjab, pulses are cultivated at an area of 2.491 million acres and total production volume was 0.42 million tonnes annually.He recommended that there was need to improve the production further in order to meet local nutritional requirement.Pakistan used to spend huge amount for import of pulses, he said.News SourceNews Collated byPAKISSAN.com
