The World's Most Exclusive Private Events

Have you ever gone to a nightclub with a long line outside, waited to get in, and found that the place was nowhere near capacity? Some places like to create the illusion of exclusivity because it draws our curiosity and can be an effective marketing ploy. The truly exclusive private events, however, do not need to draw people in by artifice. In fact, you'remore likely to find a total absence of outward indicators for truly elite gatherings. The Bohemian Club's summer retreat in Northern California is outwardly laconic compared to the combined wealth contained within. It is one of the world's most exclusive private events. The Bohemian Club is a San Francisco Bay Area-based club ostensibly set up as a place where gentleman could go to discuss art. It was founded in 1872 in San Francisco by a group of journalists and artists but soon began to accept businessmen and government officials into its ranks. The name comes from the earliest writings of Bret Harte, who penned sensationalized tales of his exploits as "The Bohemian." In 1878, the club purchased a 2,700 acre tract of land in Monte Rio, about 45 minutes north of San Francisco, and named the property Bohemian Grove. From its early days until now, the summer retreat has hosted an annual gathering of many of the most powerful and influential people on the planet. Former Presidents, captains of industry, bank chairmen, and other world leaders have attended. While it has pivoted from its original membership of influential artists to a more expansive view of influence, it still requires 10% of its members to be accomplished artists. It has also remained stalwart in its gender exclusivity, having yet to admit a female member. Women have only recently been allowed on the property, as guests ofimmediate family or spouses. The exterior of the retreat in Monte Rio is understated and few photos exist of the interior (especially in modern times). The property is nestled in a (presumably magnificent) grove of old-growth redwood trees that provide outstanding cover for the cabal of movers and shakers. In fact, the most visible public sign that the grove is in session is the sudden proliferation of Gulfstream jets in the hangars of the Sonoma County Airport. Perhaps because of this exclusivity, the club is often the discussion of conspiracy theories (illuminati, satan worship, etc.). It's hard to say what exactly goes on but the rules of the grove prohibit business discussions on the premises, where the motto "Weaving Spiders Come Not Here" hints at the prohibition onmembers brokering deals. We do know that at least four U.S. President's have been members, usually prior to holding office. We also know, or perhaps have on good authority, that at one of the Grove's private events Robert Oppenheimer and Ernest Lawrence developed key concepts that would eventually lead to the Manhattan Project and the atomic bomb. It's not often you can say in the most literal sense that a meeting had earth-shaking consequences. To learn more about their options for private events, Vineland, NJ residents should visithttp://eastlyngolf.com.Article Source:http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Andrew_Stratton/83489
