Glucose.Glucose is a simple sugar, a single hexagonal molecule composed of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogen atoms, and 6 oxygen atoms. Glucose is stable only for short time periods in biological systems. Once absorbed into our blood from food or liquids, it travels in the blood until transported into a cell by the action of insulin. Once inside a cell, glucose will react. The dominant reaction is the joining of phosphate (PO4) by the action of a facilitating enzyme, and thus glucose enters the sequence of "glycolysis," whereby glucose sequentially transitions into two different smaller molecules: water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2)and yields high energy molecules: ATP. Glucose thereby yields essential energy as it is metabolized to carbon dioxide and water. Glucose movement into tissue cells depends upon insulin as the transport agent. And insulin isreleased into our blood as glucose concentrations rise from ingested food. This harmony and synchrony is essential and repetitive. It is programmed genetically. Glucose enters the blood stream across the intestine surfaces; glucose stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas. Insulin transports glucose across cell membranes into cell interiors where the glucose molecule transitions through enzyme-facilitated changes, yielding energy, water, and carbon dioxide.Glycosylation.The glucose molecule also may bedriven to attach to other larger molecules by different enzymes, yielding a change in that largermolecule that will serve other purposes. The enzyme-driven attachment of glucose to a larger molecule is called "glycosylation" and these reactions also are programmed genetically, thereby creating changed macromolecules with special functions. Nucleic acids become functional when glycosylated. Certain proteins become especially functional when glycosylated. Certain enzymes must be glycosylated before becoming functional. The multiple purposes of glucose are amazing and numerous.Glycation.Glucose by its nature is "reactive." Its reactivity with phosphate is positive, essential, and beneficial inside a cell; its enzymatically-driven reactivity with certain receptive macromolecules is also positive, essential, purposeful, and beneficial. However, a glucose molecule that is not transported promptly into a cell interior or that is not enzymatically-driven to attach purposefully to a macromolecule will reactrandomly and non-beneficially to other macromolecules, where the reaction serves no purpose. In fact, these random "glycation" reactions are potentially harmful. If a glucose molecule "glycates" a membrane protein, that membrane protein is now altered irreversibly. Its nature is changed. If multiple glycation reactions accumulate onto a given cell or tissue, then the cell's nature and the tissue's nature is altered. Glycation is not programmed. It is not driven by an enzyme. Glycation is a random event that serves no positive purpose. Glycation events accumulate when glucose molecules circulate too long in the blood stream. When does this happen? Glycation events accumulate when sugar ingestion - when glucose ingestion - is excessive and repeated and/or when insulin secretion is sluggish or inadequate and/or when insulin action as glucose transport agent at tissues is impaired or resisted. Glycation events accumulate in the person with insulin lack (a form of diabetes) and in the person with resistance to insulin action at the tissue membrane sites (another form of diabetes). Thus, glucose becomes harmful when its transport intocells is delayed. A glucose molecule that circulates and circulates without uptake into tissues will glycate randomly onto a macromolecule, altering it irreversibly. Glycation is harmful. Prevention of glycation is an essentialgoal for the healthcare of millions and millions and millions of individuals who are at risk for diabetes or who are prediabetic or who actually have diabetes mellitus. Glycation events are whatcause disease and complications and injury and death of the at risk individuals.Rex Mahnensmith M.D. is an experienced and concerned Internal Medicine Physician with special interests in diabetic problems and diabetic care. India plans expanded missile export drive, with China on its mind
NEW DELHI: India has stepped up efforts to sell an advanced cruise missile system to Vietnam and has at least 15 more markets in its sights, a push experts say reflects concerns in New Delhi about China'sgrowing military assertiveness.Selling the supersonic BrahMos missile, made by an Indo-Russian joint venture, would mark a shift for the world's biggest arms importer, as India seeks to send weapons the other way in order to shore up partners' defences and boost revenues. The government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has orderedBrahMos Aerospace, which produces the missiles, to accelerate sales to a list of five countries topped by Vietnam, according to a government note viewed by Reuters and previously unreported. The others are Indonesia, South Africa, Chile and Brazil. The Philippines is at the top of a second list of 11 nations including Malaysia, Thailand and United Arab Emirates, countries which had"expressed interest but need further discussions and analysis", the undated note added.A source familiar with the matter would only say the note was issued earlier this year.New Delhi had been sitting on a 2011 request from Hanoi for the BrahMos for fear of angering China, which sees the weapon, reputed to be the world's fastest cruise missile with a top speed of up to three times the speed of sound, as destabilising.Indonesia and the Philippines had also asked for the BrahMos, which has a range of 290 km and can be fired from land, sea and submarine. An air-launched version is under testing.Wary eye on ChinaUnlike Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia, India is not a party to territorial disputes in the South China Sea, a vital global trade route which China claims most of.But India has an unsettled land border with China and in recent years has grown concerned over its powerful neighbour's expanding maritime presence in the Indian Ocean. It has railed against China's military assistance to arch-rival Pakistan and privately fumed over Chinese submarines docking in Sri Lanka, just off the toe of India."Policymakers in Delhi were long constrained by the belief that advanced defence cooperation with Washington or Hanoi could provoke aggressive and undesirable responses from Beijing," said Jeff M. Smith, Director of Asian Security Programs at the American Foreign Policy Council in Washington."Prime Minister Modi and his team of advisers have essentially turned that thinking on its head, concluding that stronger defence relationships with the US, Japan, and Vietnam actually put India on stronger footing in its dealings with China."India's export push comes as it emerges from decades of isolation over its nuclear arms programme. It is poised to join the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) after talks between Modi and US President Barack Obama in Washington this week. BrahMos' range means it falls short of the 300km limit set by the voluntary organisation.India's accession to the MTCR may also strengthen its case for joining another non-proliferation body, the Nuclear Suppliers Group, a move China has effectively blocked. Both groups would give India greater access to research and technology.BrahMos Aerospace, co-owned by the Indian and Russian governments, said discussions wereunderway with several countries on missile exports, but it was too early to be more specific."Talks are going on, there will be a deal," said spokesman Praveen Pathak.India is still a marginal player in global arms exports. The unit cost of the missile, fitted on Indian naval ships, is estimated at around $3 million.Getting closer to VietnamIndia has been steadily building military ties with Vietnam and is supplying offshore patrol boats under a $100 million credit line, its biggest overseas military aid. This week Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart General Ngo Xuan Lich in Hanoi and both sides agreed to exchange information on commercial shippingas well as expand hydrographic cooperation, the Indian defence ministry said in a statement on Monday.A source at the defence ministry said India was hoping to conclude negotiations on the supply of BrahMos to Vietnam by the end of the year. The Indian government is also considering a proposal to offer Vietnam a battleship armed with theBrahMos missiles instead of just themissile battery, the source said."A frigate integrated with the BrahMos can play a decisive role, it can be a real deterrent in the South China Sea," the source said, adding New Delhi would have to expand theline of credit to cover the cost of theship.Indian warships are armed with configurations of eight or 16 BrahMos missiles each, while sets of two or four would go on smaller vessels.A Russian official said exports of BrahMos to third countries was part of the founding agreement of the India-Russia joint venture.Only now India had armed its own military with the BrahMos was there capacity to consider exporting, he added.
Pakistan asks US to support its NSG bid
WASHINGTON: Pakistan has formally asked the US administration and Congress to support its application for joining the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).On Tuesday, US President Barack Obama formally endorsed India’s application to join the group.Pakistan submitted a formal application in Vienna last month, expressing its desire to join the group. But the US administration and Congress are both unwilling to support Pakistan. In a letter to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Pakistan’s Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani reminded Congress that Pakistan had taken a series of stepsthat qualify it for joining the NSG.“Pakistan’s desire to participate in the NSG stands on solid grounds of technical experience, capability and well-established commitment to nuclear safety,” the ambassador wrote.“Pakistan has operated secure and safeguarded nuclear power plants for over 42 years. Safe and sustainable civil nuclear energy is essential for Pakistan’s future energy security and its economic development,” he added. The letter, shared with Dawn, expresses Pakistan’s willingness to accept the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards on all foreign supplied nuclear reactors and nuclear materials similar to the current IAEA safeguards in place on all of Pakistan’s civilian nuclear facilities.Pakistan argues that its presence in the NSG is in the interest of nuclear trading countries, as it will further promote NSG non-proliferation objectives by the inclusion of a statewith nuclear supply capabilities and its adherence to the NSG guidelines.“Pakistan has consistently maintained that criteria-based, non-discriminatory approach, which treats both Pakistan and India equally, while also simultaneously binding them to appropriate non-proliferation commitments, will not only strengthen the non-proliferation regime but also promote strategic stability in South Asia,” the letter explained.Editorial:US support for India on NSGMr Jilani argued that Pakistan’s viewhas been “corroborated by incontrovertible evidence and publicexport analysis that the approach of granting country-specific exceptions, such as the NSG waiver in 2008, has neither benefited the non-proliferation regime nor the objective of regional strategic stability”.The letter warns that publicly available reports on “significant upcoming fissile material facilities and build up of unsafeguarded weapon usable fissile material in Pakistan’s neighbourhood raise larger security and stability concerns for the region.”Pakistan argues that a non-discriminatory and equitable approach by the participating governments of the NSG would help South Asia achieve a safer and moreprosperous future.“Pakistan remains ready to continue its constructive engagement with the United States and international community at large as a mainstreampartner in the non-proliferation arrangements,” the Ambassador said.Last month, Pakistan and the US held the 7th round of “Security, Strategy, Stability and Non-proliferation” dialogue to discuss a range of issues in nuclear non-proliferation. Both countries agreed on the value of Pakistan’s continued engagement, outreach and integration into the internationalnon-proliferation regime. The US also helped Pakistan develop Strategic Trade Controls. But these engagements did not translate into US support for Pakistan’s bid to join the NSG.The US is not only supporting India’sapplication but is also encouraging other countries, including China, to back the Indian move.Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered unconditional support toIndia’s entry into the NSG but China opposes the move as it discriminates against Pakistan.Without China’s support India cannot join the group, as all membership applications need consensus of existing members.Published in Dawn, June 9th, 2016
Ladies, Can Cheating Improve Your Marriage Relationship?
Often on our wedding day, we begin with great expectations for our marriage and our husbands. We want our husbands to loveus unconditionally, protect us, and provide for us. And these are very legitimate goals. But often times as women we find ourselves disillusioned and disappointed because we feel our husbands fail to meet our expectations. At times, we struggle with crushed emotions and we feel hurt, rejected, and lonely. These types of feelings can often tempt us to findpleasure, love, and validation from places and people outside of our marriage.Maybe you're feeling tempted to cheat right now.Or maybe you could never imagine yourself in someone else's bed no matter how bad your marriage gets. Black People Are In A State Of Economic Emergency!
The National Urban League 40 years ago released the first edition of its State of Black America report. The report interjected serious consideration of the social economic and social political issues facingAfrican Americans into the national discourse.Published in 1976, schools had been legally desegregated for 22 years, the Civil Rights Act of 1965 had been in place 11 years, and the economy was one year into economic recovery from the recession that lasted from November 1973 to March 1975.Blacks were nearly twice as likely as whites to be unemployed, the median household had only 59 cents for every dollar of income in the white household, and African Americans were three times more likely to live in poverty than whites. To go further back and add the statistic provided by the elder statesman on black economics, Claude Anderson, at the end of slavery in 1876, blacks owned less than one half of one percent of the total wealth of the U.S. That figure has remained the same to this day almost 150 years later.Overall wealth and so called spending power is the focus of our talk today. The National Urban Leagues 40 year comparison from 1976-2016 is not much of a shock or surprise to many in the black community, despite having a black family in the White House for the past 8 years. The New York Times in 1976 published an article titled "Distress Signal," reporting on the first edition of the National UrbanLeagues State of Black America. The Times article said at the time, "Beyond the statistics it contains, gloomy enough by themselves, the report dramatizes a substantial failure of political leadership." This is what we need to also discuss moving forward. The median income for a black family in 1976 was $9,242 for a white family it was $15,537. In 2016 the average black family earns approximately $35,481 compared to the average white family nationwide at $59,622.In terms of people living below the poverty line, in1976 Blacks were 29.4% compared to whites at 9.1% in 1976. In 2016 Blacks are 27% in poverty living below that line, whites are at 10%. The unemployment rate of blacks in 1976 was at 13.2%, whites were at 7%. Today Black unemployment they say averages at 9.6% with whites at 4.8%. Home ownership for blacks was 43.7% compared to whites at 67.6%. Due to the recent recession of 2008, blacks were hit harder in this most important category. The average American has most of their wealth intheir home so this aspect is critical. Today black home ownership is at 43% with whites at 72.6%. There are other stats that you could check out at,http://soba.iamempowered.com/2016-executive-summary.As we can see from this study, things have not changed much from an economic standpoint for blacks in forty years straight! There are some exceptions of course. We have many black families that make well over $35k. We have many examples of athletes and entertainers and personalities that have high paying jobs. The problem is there are many many more of us livingand stuck in or just above the poverty line. This has the average where it is. The New York Times in 1976 called all of this a "Substantial failure of political leadership." I would have to agree partially with that for those times and today. The problem is in the midst of all of these depressing statistics somehow, some way, Black people as agroup are spending more than 1 Trillion dollars a year on things! How could this be possible?! I am pretty sure the white media put this stat out and the black media picked it up and it spread throughout the black community. It sounds good and impressive. "Blacks predicted to have 1.1 Trillion dollars in spending power by 2015." The comparison of the so called "spending power" to other economies throughout the world. This would be a fair comparison if Blacks in America were actually in unison in their spending, as a nation moving as one, taking accountability for every aspect of our spending. Converting that so called "spending power" into real economic power in politics, agriculture nationwide and community by community, building the necessaryinstitutions, owning the properties and businesses in our own communities, banking etc.I started feeling like the 1 Trillion dollar spending article was a calling card for other businesses, if they did not already know about the "spending power" of the black community. What else could it have been. The state of Black Americans as well as Blacks throughout the diaspora economically is in a dire state of emergency! We have the stats! I have studied some of the breakdown of where the money was being spent. Outside of general living expenses, we are buyingclothing like "The lifestyles of the rich and famous". Black people are the number 1 consumers of alcohol from the study and conversly we love and spend hardily on entertainment. We have no ownership in most of this designated spending, and we do little to no producing. The way the 1 trillion is being spent is the equivalent to a rapper with the newest Jordans, tens of thousands of jewelry with overpriced bottles of alcohol just throwing stacksof money at the strip club right after we get paid. No savings, No investments. No ownership, No Business, No security for children. No real solid plan for economic freedom. Just spending. Actually the rapper may have his finances in some order, savings, 401k, college funds, home ownership, investments. He may have just put a small amount aside just for the club, to create theillusion of wealth to attract more business. If this is true he would be doing way better than the Black collective basically throwing away billions of dollars each year with no real R.O.I.While I do agree that there has been a general failure in the handling of Black people not just from politicians, but the U.S government in general. There are things that could be done now, with what we have, that could turn the tide economically. There are factors that can be applied to our 1 trillion dollar economy that could set us up to build and grow and sustain ourselveswith an economic platform to last for generationsto come! These same factors can and should be applied to your personal finances fist, your home economy which is your business. Are you runningyour home finances like a trip to the strip club? There are six principles to live by economically that can sustain you as a family I will be covering these in a little more detail in later posts so stay tuned.http://www.thetrillionairenextdoor.comArticle Source:http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Omar_Huff/1144453
