Growers asked to speed up weeds removing

The Met Office has asked the growers to speed up their weeds removing operations to clean fields from unwanted plants to help standing crops utilise the existing soil moisture fully.It said that weeds cause a considerable yield loss every year, which could be removed from standingcrops with using any recommended sprays or manually.The expected rains will benefit the standing Rabi crop, it said, adding that the farmers should stop irrigating wheat that was at shooting stage.It said that trees were falling away their leaves covering the fields which could harm the Rabi crop's growth including wheat."Framers should collect leaves from the crops as early as possible so that normal growth of crop may not be disturbed," it said.Night temperature is expected to drop slightly by 1-2 degrees Celsius in most of the agricultural plains, especially upcountry up to February 20."Due to further drop of temperatures, especially farmers of upper areas are advised to protect their crops from the frost," it said. Wind is expected to blow at normal speed in the agriculture plains over the period.Farmers of lower half of the country, especially in central regions should take steps to maintain optimum temperature. Poultry rearing houses to maintain optimum room temperature against rapid changing weather.Mostly dry weather is expected in Punjab till February 20.However, light to moderate rainfall with light snowfall over the hills is expected in Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Lahore divisions on February 12. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in D G Khan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Lahore divisions from February 18 to February 20.Mainly dry weather expected in Sindh. However, light rainfall is expected in Karachi, Larkana and Mirpurkhas divisions from February 19t to February 20.In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mainly cold and cloudy weather is expected with light to moderate rainfall and light snowfall over the hills in Hazara, Peshawar and Malakand divisions today.Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Hazara, Peshawar and Malakand from February 19 to February 20.Weather in Balochistan is expected to remain cold and dry.
