The Punjab government has devised a comprehensive plan to use the barren lands of Dera Ghazi Khan for fish farming to meet the protein needs of the people and growing demand of fish seed in the public and private sector.The plan will be implemented with a cost of Rs 165.592 million, said Director General Fisheries Punjab Dr Muhammad Ayub while presiding over a meeting regarding promotion of fish farming in Dera Ghazi Khan, here on Tuesday.Director Fisheries (Ext) Iftikhar Ahmad Qureshi, Inchrage Planning and Development Anser Mahmood Chatha and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.Dr Ayub said that with the completion of this project, demand for poultry, mutton and beef will substantially reduce and people of the area would be attracted to fish meat and the protein diet would be available to them according to their needs.Dr Muhammad Ayub further said that under this project, a fish seed hatchery would be established in Rajanpur district with an annual production capacity of up to five million which will be supplied for natural waters in Dera Ghazi Khan Division and fish farms set up in private sector. It will increase in fish production up to 600 to 800 metric tons.He said that the project would promote fish farming in Dera ghazi Khan Division and modernisation and building up the capacity of the three existing fish seed nursery units at Gujja (Muzaffargarh), Jampur (Rajanpur) and Drahama (DG Khan).News SourceNews Collated byPAKISSAN.comCourtesy Business Recorder
